The prosecutors within the National Anticorruption Directorate – the Section for combatting offences assimilated to those of corruption ordered the start of the criminal action and the temporary custody for 24 hours, starting with July 29th, 2016, against the defendant

OLTEANU BOGDAN, when the act was committed, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, for committing the offence of traffic of influence.

The Ordinance drawn up by the prosecutors showed that there are data and evidence according to which:

During July - November 2008, the defendant Olteanu Bogdan, as the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, requested and received from a businessman the sum of EUR 1,000,000 and electoral support, consisting in marketing services and consultancy, in exchange for interceding with the members of the Romanian Government in order for a certain person to be appointed as governor of the Danube Delta.
The money was remitted by the businessman, through a middleman, at the headquarters of a political party.
Subsequently, as a result of the arrangements made by the defendant Olteanu Bogdan, the respective person was appointed on September 18th, 2008 as governor of the Danube Delta.

In the case, the prosecutors carry out criminal investigation acts against other people too.
The defendant was informed about his legal status and charges, according to the provisions of article 309 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

On July 29th, 2016, the defendant Olteanu Bogdan is to be brought before the High Court of Cassation and Justice with the proposal of pretrial detention for a period of 30 days.

It should be mentioned that the start of the criminal action represents a stage of a criminal trial regulated by the Criminal Procedure Code, with the purpose to create the procedural framework for gathering the evidence, a situation which cannot, under any circumstances, infringe the principle of presumption of innocence.
