To complete the press releases no. 1590/VIII/3 from the 10th of November 2014, the Information and Public Relations Office is authorized to provide the following data:
As result of meeting the legal requirements provided by the provisions of article 109 paragraph 2 of the Romanian Constitution, article 12 and 19 of the Law no. 115/1999 and of the Decision no. 270/10.03.2008 of the Constitutional Court, the Prosecutors within the National Anticorruption Directorate - the Section for Combating the Offences related to those of Corruption have ordered the start of the criminal action and the pretrial detention for 24 hours, against the defendant:
DAVID CRISTIAN, Minister of Internal Affairs and Administrative Reform (during the 5th of April 2007 – the 22nd of December 2008), charged for the offence of taking bribe.
The criminal investigation ordinance drawn up by the prosecutors indicated that there are data and clues leading to the reasonable suspicion according to which:
The facts the National Anticorruption Directorate was notified about was that the Minister David Cristian requested in 2007, and on the 1st of February 2008 received the amount of 500,000 Euro, from a denouncer, through a middleman, for practicing his duties of training and coordination of the activity of prefects in a manner designed to ensure that the County Commission for establishing the property right issued the property right upon a 15 hectars located outside Buzau.
The defendant was informed about his status and the charges brought against him, according to the provisions of article 309 of the Penal Procedure Code. He will be brought to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, with a proposal of pretrial detention for 30 days.
Acts of criminal investigation are also taking place against other people.

It should be mentioned that the start of the criminal investigation represents a stage of the criminal trial regulated by the Penal Procedure Code, a situation which cannot, under any circumstances, infringe the principle of presumption of innocence.
