On March 26-27th, 2018, the National Anticorruption Directorate, in its capacity as member of the European Network against Corruption EPAC/EACN, organized in Bucharest the second session of the EPAC/EACN Working Group on "The Analysis of big data, related legal aspects and the use of data bases".
The EPAC/EACN Management Assembly met in February 2017 in Vienna and agreed on the organization of the EPAC/EACN Working Group "Analysis of big data, related legal aspects and the use of data bases", co-chaired by the Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) and the Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).
The objective of the Working Group was to bring together representatives of the member organizations of EPAC/EACN, in order to exchange best practices and recommendations in analysing big data and the use of data bases in the anti-corruption investigations.
The first meeting of this Working Group took place in October 2-3, 2017 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
An interim report regarding the results of the first session of the Working Group was presented during the 17th EPAC/EACN Annual Professional Conference and General Assembly that took place in November 15-17, 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The second session of the Working Group was organised in Bucharest, with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Romania.
Following the discussions of the first session of the EPAC/EACN Working Group in Lithuania, the Working Group meeting in Bucharest aimed to address the challenge of managing big data sets in the investigation of corruption cases, bringing together experts representing the anticorruption authorities, acting as members of the EPAC / EACN Network of European Partners against Corruption, with the aim of sharing their experience and best practices in this field.
The Working Group was attended by representatives of the anticorruption authorities and police institutions from 11 European Union member and non-member states (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Ukraine) as well as representatives of OLAF and EUROPOL.
The outcome of the debates of the Work Group will be a set of recommendations that will be presented during the 18th EPAC/EACN Annual Professional Conference and General Assembly and will be published on the EUROPOL platform for experts.
The European Partners against Corruption (EPAC) represents a European network bringing together anti-corruption authorities from the EU and the Council of Europe member countries, providing a medium for practitioners to share experiences, identify opportunities, and cooperate across national borders in developing common strategies and high professional standards.
Every year, EPAC/EACN members organise a professional conference and several working groups.
