The anticorruption prosecutors sent trial the following defendants for committing the offence of traffic of influence: LASCAU IOAN – Deputy General Director of a General Directorate for Public Finances; VIZER LADISLAU MARIUS – businessman and president of the European Federation of Judo.
During December 2003, in his capacity of Deputy General Director of a General Directorate for Public Finances, the defendant claimed approximately 525,000 Euro from the manager of a commercial company, as a condition to influence public servants from the Ministry of Public Finances and from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development in order to speed-up the procedures for a late payment amounting to approximately 5,250,000 Euro. This sum of money was meant for paying the works carried out by the above mentioned company during 2002 – 2003, in favor of the beneficiary the National Company “the Romanian Waters”.
While carrying out his criminal activity, the defendant Lascau Ioan was helped by the defendant Vizer Ladislau Marius who promised that he would directly influence several civil servants from the above mentioned ministries.
It is worth mentioning that Vizer Ladislau Marius, as Austrian citizen requested the transfer of procedure and the investigation to be carried out by the Austrian competent authorities. On March 14th 2006, the Tribunal of Bucharest ruled and the file was sent to the Federal Ministry of Justice, according to the provisions of the European Convention regarding the transfer of procedures in criminal matters, adopted in Strasbourg, on May 15th 1972.
The file was sent to the Tribunal of Bucharest.
